- WALDORF ASTORIA LOS CABOS PEDREGAL, CABO SAN LUCAS, MEXICO
Perhaps one of the most awe-inspiring entrances I’ve seen at a resort to date, when you arrive at The Resort at Pedregal, by way of a path that’s been carved out of a massive mountain-esque rock. This special project alone I’m told took well over a year to complete! This stunning Cabo San Lucas resort has certainly made the Pronger-family-favorites short list! The food was incredible and the wellness options for both your body and mind were endless! I’ll do my best here to recollect such a memorable experience while doing it justice. The Luna Y Mar Spa Created by Sylvia Sepelli, this spa is a marriage of moon and sea. Luna y Mar operates under three pillars: the moon, the sea, and Mexican folk healing practices. I love the variety of organic treatments inspired by deeply rooted beliefs. In the spa you’ll find ten private spa treatment rooms surrounding a pristine meditation pool. When you’re done with your pampering you can treat yourself at an exquisite boutique – all part of the spa. Other Wellness Options You’d think it would be difficult to stay active in such a relaxing environment but when you’re enveloped in nature’s beauty it’s easy to want to celebrate it! Try their Pilates, or try tennis on the LaykholdⓇ courts. Seaside tennis, anyone? Private classes and an assortment of more personalized experiences are available for just about any interest or fitness level. Yoga retreats are among their most popular offerings! With a super convenient location that’s just private enough for relaxation, but close enough to Downtown to appease the party-goers, this resort is great for families and adult-only trips. I loved whimsical the Champagne bar swing seats, sipping, and staring at the ocean and I’m absolutely planning a second stay so I can experience even more at The Resort at Pedregal. - MONTAGE LOS CABOS, CABO SAN LUCAS, MEXICO
Any culture that believes that chocolate is “food of Gods” is absolutely worth experiencing. The Montage is packed full of wellness and healthy-minded amenities. I’m definitely adding this spot to my favorites, as Chris and I were able to sip and sample some of the very best (and unique) cuisine that we’ve ever had in beautiful Mexico! Fitness at The Montage Among those healthy-minded amenities I mentioned earlier – The Montage has one of the most gorgeous gyms you’ll find anywhere. (Seriously – it’s so open, light, and airy, I didn’t want to leave!) Fitness classes available included Mindful Morning Flow Yoga, TRX, Power Yoga, HIIT, SUP yoga, and much more. Beyond the classroom, guests can start their day with a 6:30am paddleboard journey to the cove to watch the sunrise – talk about invigorating! Pampering at The Montage How can you tell if a spa experience is that good? I saved their spa pamphlet to share with my girlfriends! I love kids as much as the next gal, but I do love my peace and quiet – the spa features an adults-only pool that is literally built for relaxation. I am a firm believer that a healthy happy mind is a key ingredient in a healthy body, so making time for relaxation like this is imperative! In the spa’s boutique I found a ton of items I would have loved to take home with me. I fingered through racks of cute athleisure including Spiritual Gangster – one of my favorite brands. The spa carries Tata Harper Skincare and Valmont Skincare – both product lines I believe in and love sharing with my closest friends. Mezcal Renewal Massage at The Montage When I heard about this treatment, I had to experience it for myself. I’m a firm believer in submerging myself in the culture of wherever I’m traveling. As a guest, there’s something special and sacred about having the opportunity to try something that’s such an integral part of a culture’s healing and wellness regime. In Oaxaca, the Mezcal drink is believed to possess curative powers and there’s even a proverb for it: “For everything bad, Mezcal renewal massage; and for everything good, too.” During your massage, you’re to relax and experience the Mexican combination of dry body brushing and full-body massage with special Mezcal essential oils. At the end of your message, you’re gifted with a taste of Mexico’s nectar, Mezcal, made with 100% agave that’s been roasted. The Mezcal was the perfect companion to my post-treatment snack: 3 crispy grasshoppers! I was surprised when I learned that grasshoppers are more nutritious than our more traditional sources of protein like beef, pork, and milk, they give you energy, improve digestion, and so much more. Besides – when’s the last time you tried something new? For the Foodies I absolutely have to share the incredible variety of healthy cuisine at this resort! Every menu I saw also featured a vegan menu – which can be hard to find when traveling. We ate dinner at the gourmet Mexican restaurant ran by Chef Alexis Palacios, Mezcal, where I sampled the most mind-blowing assortment of fresh, flavorful Mexican food that I’ve ever tasted! (Think fresh fish, ceviche, perfectly roasted vegetables, and everything in between.) Everything from the decor to the signature cocktails is intentional in this space, and it’s a true culinary experience. - THE RITZ-CARLTON, GRAND CAYMAN, CAYMAN ISLANDS
Wellness travelers, please listen closely, I’ve got to get this off my chest: The Ritz-Carlton Grand Cayman is home to one of the very best spas I have ever visited in my entire life. I’ll be sharing more details in a bit – but this spa deserved the header. The Cayman Islands are one of the most commonly known Caribbean destinations and for good reason – the sites are angelic, the people are incredibly friendly, the food is divine, and the wellness options are endless. Whether traveling to Cayman Islands solo, with your friends, your partner, or your entire family, there’s something for everyone. The Ritz-Carlton Cayman Islands has secured its spot at the top of luxury travel in this tropical paradise because of their inclusive array of offerings. The Ritz-Carlton Golf Club I’m starting to think that Chris only takes vacations that include ample golfing opportunities – and you know what – I’m okay with that if it takes us to places like this! The golf course here is 9 holes of fun with seaside views and nearly neon greens. It’s not uncommon to see iguanas scamper across the course – adding to the challenge and excitement of it all! I love the relaxed and casual atmosphere of this particular course and it’s always a pleasure to spend time together on the links. More Outdoor Fun for Everyone Every single member of our family loves the Ritz-Carlton Jean-Michel Cousteau’s Ambassadors of the Environment programming. Exploring the region through the eyes of an environmentalist is such a priceless opportunity to share with my children. We try to visit at least one of these special classes during each visit! Grand Cayman, home of The Ritz-Carlton, has seven miles of beach to explore by kayaking, paddleboarding, snorkeling, sailing, or just sunbathing near the oceanside. Off the water you can amp up your tennis game and visit the gorgeous fitness center to stay active (located in the spa) this phenomenal gym has a top of the line equipment. Cardio waits for no one! Personal training and group classes like core, yoga, body conditioning, and stretching are found here, too. Excursions are plentiful while visiting the Cayman Islands! Swimming with stingrays, cavorting with sea turtles for the afternoon, and diving into crystal-blue waters together as a family shapes our Caymanian vacations. Concierge are quick to connect you with boat rides to places you’ll dream of forever – and these special moments help to bond us together on our family trips. La Prairie Spa La Prairie Spa’s assortment of signature treatments are as breathtaking as the 20,000 square foot spa is itself. This spa uses Swiss techniques and products to execute wellness-enhancing services like full body massage, facials, pedicures, and manicures. Travel Recovery is a special La Prairie Spa find that includes relaxing Swedish Massage and a facial – both designed to get you into a deep state of peace and into what I call “vacation mode.” White Caviar Illuminating Facial uses the benefits of Golden Caviar extracts and properties to even your skin tone and reveal bright and vibrant skin. The Full Body Treatments take the spotlight by offering some of the most specially designed rituals for wellness I’ve seen yet. I encourage you to take a close look at the Balancing Caviar Body Treatment, From The Sea, the Diamond Perfection , and the Dream Body Treatment. Invigorating, stimulating, exfoliating, and intensely relaxing. Your spa coordinator can help guide you to what’s best for your skin type and goals. Dining in Grand Cayman As you may imagine, there’s no shortage of fresh fish and bright island flavor in Grand Cayman. The Ritz-Carlton restaurant lineup boasts Blue by Eric Ripert, Andiamo, Seven, Taikun, Bar Jack, and Silver Palm. A total family favorite, Andiamo is home to an outdoor theater that perfectly aligns with the fun vibe and flavorful menu. Taikun shares some of the most scrumptious sushi I’ve ever had, and Blue has more select wines than I could sip in a lifetime. - THE OCEAN CLUB, PARADISE ISLAND, BAHAMAS
Chris and I traveled to this breathtaking locale about 8 years ago when it was called the One and Only Ocean Club, and now as a Four Seasons property it is even more stunning than before! When a place really steals my heart, I always make a point to visit it again. Reliving memories you made and seeing the same special spot with fresh eyes is an entirely unique experience – so if you’ve traveled somewhere and fell in love, I urge you to visit it again! The Four Seasons has done a spectacular job emphasizing everything I loved so much about the One and Only Ocean Club when crafting The Ocean Club. My girlfriends and I spent the entire day at this pristine private property exploring the grounds and admiring the perfectly curated artwork – and I cannot wait to take my husband back for a longer stay. There’s something to be said about visiting a private property for a rejuvenating vacation. The level of intimacy you experience with yourself as you walk the grounds and appreciate nature is unparalleled. Bougainvillea pops throughout the manicured gardens, and I found myself reconsidering my entire landscaping back at home. Every time I travel, “I take a piece” of where I’ve been back with me – whether it’s trying to recreate the zingy dressing I’ve tasted on a salad, or sharing stories of something I’ve learned about a new region; I try to take it all in and appreciate its uniqueness. The Ocean Club is nestled next to the Nassau Harbor, and has found a way to make 35 acres of Versailles-inspired grounds feel as peaceful and as private as your own backyard. When you’re not soaking in the sunshine here are a couple of my favorite spa + wellness features offered! (HUGE bonus: they use Elemis products, which I adore.) The spa offers a journey for each individual that walks in, which means every body’s needs are considered and cared for. Coconut Poultice Massage I love that this massage combines Eastern and Western techniques. I implement both philosophies into my daily healthcare routine so when I find beneficial treatments that include them both I welcome the opportunity to indulge. The rich oils used in the massage treatment infuse your body with a boost of vitamins E + K. Heated Coconut Poultice is applied to specific areas to release tension that you may be holding onto deep within your muscles. Ocean Rituals Spa Villas award you the gift of silence, seclusion, and the opportunity to focus solely on yourself and your healing. Literally soaking in the relaxation and the peace that’s been created just for you! The suite of offerings that have been hand-selected to be offered here are unlike any other that I’ve found, including the Thousand Flower Detox Wrap that infuses your body with natural goodness and primes it for the Elemis Deep Tissue Muscle Massage. Fitness at The Ocean Club There’s certainly no shortage of opportunities for a fitness junkie like myself when visiting The Ocean Club. Every day the gym is open from 6am – 8pm, and features dedicated rooms for just about every athletic endeavor imaginable. Pilates? Oh, Yes. Biking? Absolutely! Lawn Croquet? You betcha! Try something different to get your heart rate going – adding an array of experiences allows your body to move in ways you will never experience at home on the treadmill. Their staff is incredibly knowledgeable and ready to show you techniques to improve your form, or pace the grounds with you so you know the perfect jogging route. Local Cuisine You’ll Love I believe that the road to wellness starts with the foods we use to nourish our bodies. While traveling I’m always on the hunt for meals that use the freshest ingredients available. Not only are fresh ingredients better for your body as they’re more nutrient-rich, but I love knowing that the food that we’re eating has been harvested or created with caring hands from the region we’re visiting. When special recipes have been fine-tuned for hundreds of years – you know you’re in for a treat! During our visit, we had dinner at the French-Asian inspired Dune where Michelin-star awarded Jean-Georges Vongerichten is at the helm. Picture this: a table flooded with vibrant kale salad, perfectly cooked sea bass, and salmon that’s sweet and savory aroma is making my mouth water as I write. The sea bass was by far the best I’ve ever tasted! This dining experience is exactly what you’d expect of an exquisite Four Seasons locale, and the perfect way to punctuate an evening out. - NIZUC RESORT AND SPA, NIZUC, CANCUN
Escape a world away with quick access to an international airport? Yes, it’s possible. Chris and I have made a handful of trips to get away from the grey and dreary winter weather in the Midwest. One of our most favorite destinations to soak in the sun is hands-down: Nizuc Resort and Spa. Phenomenal food, PGA-rated golfing for Chris, and a spa that feels as though it’s been designed by God himself, this special spot in Cancun has received countless accolades including being named “Top 100 Hotels in the World 2018” by Travel + Leisure. Flying in to the Cancun International Airport, you’re really just moments away from being able to completely relax and submerge yourself in the laid back atmosphere of this pristine resort. Sparkling ocean waters, immaculate sanded beaches, and regionally influenced modern architecture are the building blocks to this jaw-dropping health and wellness haven. Each corner offering a new adventure or reprieve from daily chaos and a chance for romance! Activities at Nizuc Chris and I planned this adults-only getaway just before Valentine’s Day so naturally we wanted to add just a bit of adventure, romance, and relaxation to our itinerary. Eager to hit the links he’d fawned over for quite some time, Chris explored the holes at El Camaleon Mayakoba Golf Course. This special locale was the site of the first PGA Tour event to be held outside of the United States and Canada. I loved the vast amount of ways to get outside and get active while staying here. Don’t get me wrong, a few hours by the pool is phenomenal, but I love to make the most out of my trips by sampling from activities I’d have a hard time finding anywhere else. At Nizuc I found ZAYAK outings, stand up paddle boarding, and seaside yoga were on the menu! We both loved the fitness center and group class offerings. I opted for personalized sessions with Israel, a certified personal trainer, as I enjoy learning from a variety of professionals and I heard wonderful things about this facility. Unique Finds at Nizuc Cigar rolling, tequila tasting at the Havana Lounge, sushi making… all of these fun activities are available where you’re able to enhance your knowledge about some of your most favorite things. I adored the Havana Lounge vibe and the endless knowledge from the Tequila master, and learning from Chef Alicia Padilla about the best in sushi was a huge highlight of my trip. Accommodations at Nizuc Resort and Spa Of course, the room and bathroom were immaculate – but it’s hard to compete with the natural and exotic beauty found outside the villa walls. Attached to our villa was a private veranda that was nestled next to an exquisite dipping pool – a great place to sit, sip, and listen to birds calling. A charming seating area was arranged on the patio giving you the perfect place to kick back and breathe, taking in the moments and landscape before you. That something extra we found in our room is what really set our stay apart from others we have had – every evening fresh flower petals would be arranged in a different way! Some greeting us at the door and trailing to the bed, some filled the inviting warmth of a freshly drawn bath. It felt like our honeymoon all over again! Outside of the room, on the veranda I just mentioned – was what Chris and I referred to as the “mailbox,” you could access this drop box from your side of the private veranda and the staff could find it from theirs. Each morning we were greeted with freshly baked pastries and piping hot coffee – as if cupid’s little helpers were working to set the tone for an incredible day and night for us! Dining Out at Nizuc When we weren’t enjoying the luxe accommodations of our room and we weren’t exploring the gorgeous sea, jungle, or spa, we were probably dining out. Nizuc Resort and Spa shares six special dining experiences with guests. Each restaurant adds a piece to the culinary puzzle making it possible for you to satiate just about any craving. Chris and I both like to dine with health in mind but we are known to indulge a bit on vacation – especially on once in a lifetime tastes like homemade fare and rare foods. Each restaurant we visited offered freshly caught seafood, sweeping views of the ocean and majestic grounds and greenery. Here are my favorite foodie finds at Nizuc (I look forward to being able to try more again!) Ramona: Kale Salad, Tuna Carnitas, Mayan Octopus La Punta Grill & Lounge: Fish Aguachile, Grilled Salmon, Goat Cheese and Strawberry Salad Indochine: Papaya Salad, Tikka Masala Lobster, Indochine Fusion The Spa at Nizuc Resort and Spa ESPA products (a favorite of mine) are an integral player in most of the treatments offered at the Spa at Nizuc. Though I cherished my massage treatments and facial during my stay, by far my most favorite feature of this spa is the Thermal Experience. The Thermal Experience is an orchestration of varied water pressures, plunges, and steam all in varied but calculated temperatures. Another unique feature I found at this spa is the “Be Mindful” series of treatments spanning over three days. This special series includes the Thermal Experience among other rituals, and helps you get a grasp on the moment – and your health. I opted for the ESPA Facial and Feel Perfect Massage in addition to the Silk Effect Salt & Oil Scrub. The personalized ESPA Facial focuses on your skin’s needs, and I customized the Feel Perfect Massage to focus on my back, neck, and feet. Towards the end of our stay I indulged in the Silk Effect Salt and Oil Scrub after a deep tissue massage. This Mayan-inspired signature therapy uses a heavenly blend of sea salts and oils to thoroughly massage, exfoliate, and hydrate your skin. More Spa Finds I Adore I always think it’s notable to share when a spa offers something significant to the culture it stemmed from. The Nizuc Resort and Spa has a variety of traditional Mayan treatments including the use of pure agave and cacao in treatments. The NIZUC Renewal, as described on their website, is “Inspired by the Mayan’s use of healing stones and herbs, this treatment will soothe the mind and cocoon the body in pure relaxation. The treatment begins with the purification of the skin using natural sea salts and pure Mexican agave. The body is massaged with warm gemstones revered by the Mayan’s for their healing properties. The treatment concludes with a meditative scalp massage.” I’ve been traveling to Mexico my entire life, and my expectations for my trips are always far exceeded! Nizuc Resort and Spa’s wellness options and memorable activities have truly enhanced my life well beyond my special time spent there and I look forward to returning. - BAHA MAR, NASSAU, BAHAMAS
Let me preface this blog by saying, you’re going to be seeing a lot of Baha Mar references throughout my website – why? Because this wonderland has stolen my heart and in just a short time, I felt like I’d taken a lifetime of trips during my visit there. Baha Mar in Nassau is home to three unique hotels, all within a stone’s throw of each other, but all maintaining their own vibe and beauty. The collection of experiences housed in the same awe-inspiring destination make this property a must-go destination for: families celebrating something special, newlyweds soaking in their honeymoons, retirees exploring a whole new world of possibilities… the list goes on! I feel as though there’s literally something for everyone and it’s all right here in Baha Mar. Here’s a brief overview of each property – but you’ll find a dedicated blog for them, too, because these beauties each deserve the spotlight! I’m going to reference these resorts like they’re siblings – because with their unique identities and seamless proximity, they’re clearly a family at this beautiful go-to destination! SLS Baha Mar To me, SLS is the youngest child. It’s here to party and less concerned about the rules than its predecessors. The SLS is where you go when you’re ready to let loose, you want the hip atmosphere and endless nightlife happenings. Beautiful, stylish, and free-spirited. Grand Hyatt The Grand Hyatt is the middle child. Able to relax and let loose with the “younger” sibling once in a while, but can also button-up and blend in with their older sibling’s crew. The Grand Hyatt is a fabulous getaway for families coming to Baha Mar because it shares an abundance of activities kids and adults love. The large gym and ESPA spa make this spot a wellness retreat, too! Rosewood Rosewood is the more distinguished, eldest sibling. It’s a place where you can expect privacy, peace, and a mature ambiance. In Baha Mar The Rosewood is an ideal destination for anyone looking to relax and enjoy exquisite Caribbean sunsets, out-of-this-world luxurious spa treatments, and gourmet dining. All three properties let their uniqueness shine and all do an amazing job encompassing what Baha Mar is all about! I’m in awe of the genius behind sharing this one spectacular Caribbean destination in three different ways. It takes a special kind of place like Baha Mar to be able to create an atmosphere that can be enjoyed by so many – and this locale has far exceeded my expectations! - CHABLÉ YUCATÁN, YUCATÁN, MÉXICO
At center of Chablé Yucatán flows a Cenote, the inspiration of this award-winning spa, and a restorative life force that feeds into every element you’ll encounter while visiting this breathtaking resort. I welcomed the Summer of 2019 with the experience of a lifetime – traveling to Chablé Yucatán with Hidden Doorways for a completely transformative wellness experience I’ll never forget. I arrived at Chablé in the afternoon; a team of friendly hospitality experts were quick to greet me, check me in, and whisk me away to a mouthwatering lunch at the vibrant Ki’ol. Ki’ol means “healthy” in Mayan, so I was eager to experience their perfectly balanced assortment of Ka’anche organically grown fruits and veggies highlighted in a menu that’s arranged to showcase what’s seasonal! It’s part of the Chablé philosophy to combine the Ka’anche’s (Maya Garden) offerings with their boundless wellness options – fueling your body with fresh nutrients from the inside out! Lunch at Ki’ol was the perfect way to restore my energy after a morning of traveling and a delightful segway to a full property tour where we were introduced to the awe-inspiring grounds we’d call home for the next few days. Walking through the resort every turn welcomed us with lush greenery that was beautifully maintained yet still flaunted the exotic natural beauty you’d expect to see in the jungle. Stone-lined paths, flowing water, ornate greenery – all of this is weaved together to create the most serene tapestry you’ll find anywhere in the world! Teatime with friends punctuated the sun-soaked afternoon. A fabulous way to sit, sip, and take in the scenery together. Getting to know more about Mayan wisdom, the mission of Chablé, and my fellow travelers before Yoga Nidra at the Cenote filled my afternoon with the perfect balance of peace and fun before returning to dinner at Ki’ol. As someone who’s practiced yoga for years, I can honestly share that Yoga Nidra near the Cenote took my experience to a whole new level. It’s no surprise that a Cenote is at the heart of this acclaimed locale, as the Mayan culture believed these sacred waters to be portals to the subconscious and a way to connect with gods and the afterlife. During my stay at Chablé, this meditative connection was palpable. I truly felt the importance, peace, and energy of the deeply sacred grounds while entering one of the most meditative yoga experiences of my life. Sights and sounds of the outside world slipped away while I connected with my body – in that place – in the moment. Every morning at Chablé you’re greeted with a fresh squeezed juice that’s an assortment of organic fruits and veggies concocted specially to help your body stay balanced, glowing, and healthy. While visiting I enjoyed the Anti-Flu juice packed with vitamin C and antioxidants, a PH facial regulator that helps your body flush out toxins and moisturize your skin, and a green juice that was loaded with fresh fruits like nopal and served to keep your airway system healthy! Extra amenities like these can be found across the grounds as this location is truly a wellness destination. International Yoga Day and Temazcal What better way to celebrate International Yoga Day than with an assortment of complimentary wellness activities at Chablé? The resort coordinated an array of offerings including Energy Transmutation Meditation, Kundalini, Vinyasa, and Nidra Yoga, a summer solstice ceremony, wellness golf, and more for guests’ choosing. These are just some of the whole body health activities you can partake in on any given day at Chablé, and it was serendipitous to celebrate the first day of summer and International Yoga Day at this luxury locale. I opened my heart and soul in a Temazcal lead by the beautiful spirit and shaman, Monica. As a Shaman, Monica is in touch with and can influence good and evil spirits. During deeply meditative states we sat in the pitch dark for over an hour in temperatures I have never experienced before! This spiritual ceremony will live with me forever and even while writing this I can recall the sizzle of the water on the piping hot “Grandmother” volcanic rock – the living, breathing combination of the four elements. Steam bellows out of the rocks, opening your pores, and cleansing your body. Your only focus during this time is to push past all the fear and anxiety you may have about small spaces, darkness, heat, and focus on your breathing. This exercise helped me strengthen my confidence in my ability to control my emotions and truly embrace this possibly once in a lifetime experience. The Chablé Way I was moved by the deeply rooted mission of the Chablé Spa. In their literature they share, “unique essence is duality; that eternal dance between two opposing forces which strengthen each other. Shamanism combined with luxury, ancient mayan healing techniques with modern science: these combinations come together to provide extraordinary and unique wellness results. At Chablé Spa, the only time that exists is here and now. The circle of life is based on time cycles, and therefore, the message of wellbeing here at Chablé is timeless… Entering the Spa is part of a personal journey, a deep immersion into an experience which will allow you to return to your daily life feeling free, now transformed and as part of a continued evolution. Modern science, traditional Mayan wisdom, a subtle cosmic influence and abundance of Mother Nature come together to create the healing experience which can be found in the Chablé Spa, and which brings our guests to a new level of inspired wellbeing.” From organically grown herbs harvested in the Ka’anche and used to formulate enrich spa treatments to the spiritual guidance and ceremonious welcoming from soulful Shamans, the Chablé Spa has created three separate journeys guests can voyage during their visit at the spa. A personal consultation best determines which journey suits your needs: Fountain of Youth, Tree of Life, or Heaven on Earth. Each journey is comprised of an assortment of rituals designed to impart the essences that transform your wellness. The Fountain of Youth’s essence is Flow, emphasizing the Cenotes as Earth’s “chakras.” Imagine our Earth is a living being and the Cenotes flowing through as the circulatory system! Mayans consider Cenotes sacred and magical – a source of wellness and youth. The Fountain of Youth Journey is assisted by the power of the Cenote. Lymphatic Flow Massage, a Flow Healing Ritual, Nirvana Stress Relief Massage and Bio-Energy Lift™️ are just some of the signature rituals. Tree of Life Journey is centrally focused on the essence of Balance. Honoring the link between Earth and the Heavens there’s an emphasis on Ceiba, a mythical tree where the branches represent the higher conscious and Heaven, roots are the subconscious or underworld, and the trunk is human life. The Tree of Life is the representation of the connectivity of all of these realms coming together. Rituals for this journey support balance in all things. Deep cleansing, the release of tension, empowerment, and energizing treatments are meant to restore anyone taking this journey. Feel inspired with the Heaven on Earth Journey. Traditional Mayan healing treatments create the series of rituals that celebrate the “interconnectivity of human life.” Singing bowls ring cleansing and energetic tones meant to vibrate throughout your soul. Sacred healing crystals, 4-handed massages, and intricate body healing techniques meld together in the array of rituals you can choose from on this journey. Every treatment, every element, and every working hand in this spa has been carefully selected to provide the ultimate healing and inspired care. More Wellness Activities at Chablé There’s certainly no shortage of wellness opportunities for bodies in motion. I experienced the Green Route Biking Tour during my stay where I was able to see what all the buzz was about surrounding the Meliponario Bee Sanctuary, the traditional Mayan outdoor kitchen, a breathtaking Mayan calendar, the Ka’anches, golf course, tennis, and pickle ball courts, and the flowing Cenotes. I got a closer look at the golf course during a wellness golf activity directed by Luis Molina. Here I learned that this sport can really be a practice of mindfulness and incredibly relaxing! We topped our evening on the greens off with handcrafted cocktails at the pavilion during sunset. Abundant Fresh & Fiery Experiences I had the pleasure of dining at Doña Eneida’s traditional outdoor Mayan kitchen during my stay. Here we sampled freshly made corn tortillas with Pork Chuk, spiced chicken, and pickled onions and an assortment of other traditional dishes with three different homemade salsas. Mayan cuisine is bursting with flavors unlike any I’ve ever experienced! Each dish danced with garden-grown veggies and when something is as lovingly prepared as a time-honored treasure like these, you can taste the difference. Beekeeping at Chablé Meliponario Bees live in a sanctuary on the property. Guests can tour this truly special spot on the grounds and learn about these stingless bees. The special honey these bees produce is highly sought after and only used in select dishes on the property. I was lucky enough to sample it in a special brown butter ice cream dish recommended by Chef Luis Ronzon at the acclaimed Ixi’im. Tequila & Wine Tasting at Chablé and Ixi’im Whole body wellness, to me, means enriching your life through experiences you cannot find anywhere else. If it’s good for your soul it’s good for your health, right? My signature drink when socializing is tequila on the rocks with a twist of lemon or lime so I was eager to sample some new tequilas I may never find again! I met with the resident tequila master, Jerry, and had the opportunity to bear witness to one of the largest premium tequila collections in the entire world! Three hundred bottles of different tequilas grace Ixi’im; Jerry introduced me to the private labeled Chablé Añejo (similar to my favorite Don Julio 1942 a perfectly aged Añejo!) I sipped five more tequilas including Blanco, Reposado, Añejo and Ulta Añejo. Jerry’s expertise guided us to accompany the tequilas with complimentary flavors including dark chocolate, orange, kiwi, and mango. Truly a treat for your tastebuds! Chablé is also home to a wine tasting where guests can experience the flavors of grapes only grown in certain parts of Mexico. These bursting fruits create the Nebbiolo, Grenache, Shiraz, and Mexican Cabernet. This tasting is conducted in a relaxed environment where you can soak in the flavors and learn more about these special wines and the people who craft them. Dining at the Chablé’s Ixi’im Chef Jorge Vallejo’s Ixi’im’s second dining masterpiece is located right on the property, surrounded by jungle greens in a placid setting that really lets you focus on the culinary journey. A refined taste of the best of Mexican cuisine, the Ixi’im (meaning corn) menu features seasonally inspired dishes with herbs and veggies plucked right from the resort’s Maya Gardens. As the top restaurant in Mexico, I was not surprised to have found this dining experience to be one of my favorites! Chablé Yucatan has orchestrated a wellness experience for your mind, body, and soul. Every element of this wellness resort is infused with the sacred ancestral beliefs of Mayan culture, enriched with the abundance found growing in the heart of the Mayan forest, and nourished by the hardworking, dedicated and attentive staff. After stepping off the plane and getting settled in, I was ready to get my body moving and work up a true Texas sweat! I'm a yogi. September is National Yoga Month. Miraval Austin offers every type of yoga you could dream of. Did the stars align or what? I started my day with Stand-Up Paddle Board Yoga (one of my absolute favorites!), which incorporates a full-body workout while floating on water. If you prefer staying on land, Miraval Austin also offers: Fun Flow Aerial Yoga and Restorative Aerial Skills Yoga Tex Zen Yoga Vinyasa Yoga Hatha Yin/Yang Yoga Slow Flow Yoga and several more! After becoming one with nature out on the water, I jumped into a Cardio Drumming class, which marries high-energy, aerobic movements to the rhythm of drums--an excuse to release your inner musician! And if you're looking for something even more challenging, I recommend the calorie-blasting Exhale HIIT workout, which had me questioning whether I had the energy to keep going, but knowing the spa was waiting for me at the end, I powered through. You know the phrase "When in Rome, do as the Romans do"? Well, when in Texas, slide into your cowboy boots and try the Country Line Dancing and Texas Two- Step classes. Any excuse to dance my way through calorie burning is a win in my book. With so many incredible fitness options to choose from, I couldn't get through them all on this trip, so I’ll be back to check Cardio Dance, Happy Hips, and Pilates Fusion off my fitness bucket list. Life in Balance Spa at Miraval Austin After a day full of adventure and fitness, the serenity of the spa was calling. Their motto, "We value elegance over excess, self-care without clutter. Thrive thoughtfully.” is great inspiration to live by and each spa attendant exemplifies this beautifully. Ayurveda, which is a holistic approach to self-healing, offers a range of therapies to restore balance and expand self-awareness. Personally, Chris has benefitted greatly from many of these therapies as they treat root causes over symptoms. My favorite Ayurveda therapy was the Shamana-Karma, which starts with a massage using a blend of aromatic oils, followed by an immunity-boosting wrap and hibiscus powder dusting, purifying both your skin and spirit. Other spa offerings include: Abhyanga, a balance-restoring massage with healing properties to the nervous system, joints, and muscles (perfect for athletes!) Rasayana Renewal Ritual, a head-to-toe, tension relieving massage utilizing deep pressure, heated dosha oils, and a hibiscus grain buffing Pradhana Veda, the ultimate relaxation experience, involving an herbal oil massage, followed by an herbal oil stream poured over the forehead releasing toxins and melting away tension, and ending with an aromatic wrap and scalp massage If you already love wraps--as well as peels and scrubs--for the nourishment and outward glow they provide your skin, then the Body Renewal Rituals menu will be sure to please your complexion. My two favorite offerings were Abundance and Ginger Healer. The Abundance Ritual is an 80-minute exfoliation and rejuvenating miracle treatment for your skin, while the Ginger Healer compliments it beautifully by incorporating restorative and therapeutic massage using healing pure ginger rosemary oil, followed by a ginger salt glaze scrub to invigorate your senses. Energy and Eastern offer a variety of techniques to heal and restore your mind as much as your body. I had the pleasure of experiencing the Pravasana, guided meditation, marma point therapy, and acupressure massage to the sounds of Tibetan bowls, which gently lead you into a deep state of intention and relaxation. Are you convinced yet that Miraval Austin's Life in Balance Spa is heaven on earth? As if all the treatments and therapies I experienced weren't enough, they also offer an array of Enhancements, which range from an eye and lip refresher, to the Kesa, which was just what my long locks needed. This 20-minute scalp treatment strengthens the hair, followed by a stimulating scalp massage. The longer you leave the oil in, the greater the benefits to your hair, so I styled a chic, low bun for dinner that evening. When I woke the next morning to wash, I revealed the silkiest hair I've ever had! Massage services are a given when exploring any spa, but Miraval Austin is known for delivering an elevated massage experience. I chose both the Tibetan Bowl Massage and the Austin Apothecary Massage, both aimed to deliver a sensory journey through sound and smell, respectively. Something I've enjoyed at every Miraval property is their Skin Care treatments. On this trip, I chose the Roots, Fruits, Petals and Leaves Facial, which is a plant-based facial customized to your specific skin care needs. After your facial, you can visit their Hair and Nail Salon for those finishing touches, where I recommend the Deborah Lippmann Signature Manicure and Signature Pedicure, which include a nail analysis and massage. Equine Experience at Miraval Austin Ok, small confession: The smell of horse manure relaxes me (I know, I know--a strange thing to enjoy!). If you know me, you know I grew up in a barn, riding horses, and finding my ultimate inner peace in doing so. This is precisely why I fell in love with Miraval Tucson years ago after experiencing their remarkable equine program, which is also available at Miraval Austin! Regardless of which equine experience you choose, you'll leave having formed a connection with your horse, as well as a renewed awareness of your mind, body, and spirit. Sustainable Living at Miraval Austin Horses aren't the only creature you'll find at Miraval Austin--you'll also find bees. Now, I have a love/hate relationship with bees. I'll take the honey that naturally sweetens most of my days, and leave the stings. However, when I saw that they offer a Beekeeper For a Day experience, I decided to try something new and give it a shot! The beekeepers at Cypress Creek Farm provided an experience one can only get at an actual apiary, including suiting up as a beekeeper for a few hours and harvesting my own honey--sans bee stings! Not only does Miraval Austin have an on-site apiary, they also practice mindful farming methods on their very own Cypress Creek Farm, where eggs and produce are gathered and picked straight from the fields to elevate your farm-to-table dining experience. Dining at Miraval Austin As part of Miraval's inclusive packages, a no-tipping policy is in place to ensure your focus remains on your experience--not your wallet. After a day filled with outdoor adventure, heart-pumping fitness classes, and relaxation at the spa, the perfect way to end your night is dining at The Hilltop Crossings Kitchen. Taking advantage of the seasonal gifts from their on-site garden, the menu is constantly changing to incorporate the freshest produce available. While looking out over Lake Travis, you'll dine on healthy, yet mouth-watering cuisine put thoughtfully together by their skilled chefs and Miraval nutritionists. I also highly recommend The Nest for fueling, grab-and-go options like smoothies and energy balls, as well as The Nook for a more intimate dining experience or late-night libation. With the most instagrammable views in all of Austin, thoughtful attention to detail in every service offered, and the focus being on you and your journey to mindfulness, I left Miraval Austin with life-changing restoration and relaxation. - WEST HOLLYWOOD EDITION, WEST HOLLYWOOD, CALIFORNIA
Proudly standing in the heart of Sunset Boulevard, The West Hollywood EDITION brings a vibrancy to the district that can't be matched by their surrounding competitors. Dripping with greenery everywhere you turn, it's as if we were transported to a sexy, swanky jungle in the middle of Los Angeles. The energy of West Hollywood is palpable as you walk through EDITION, from the robust use of color with bold yellow pool tables amid vibrant verdant lounges in the lobby, to the ceiling dripping with disco balls in the basement club, Sunset. There's one clear message The West Hollywood EDITION is sending: We're here to play. Our room overlooked the iconic downtown L.A. skyline, and while the EDITION from top to bottom makes a bold, colorful statement, our room was a peaceful, monochromatic oasis of sand tones, crisp white bedding, and ambient lighting ideal for sending us into a blissful state of relaxation. I was eager to hit the spa as they take a mindful approach to inner health and nutrition, so I booked myself a few services before reconvening with Chris later for dinner. The spa at WHE is "the first luxury destination in Los Angeles to weave together wellness, mindfulness, and beauty from within, through treatments and experiences that embrace healthy lifestyles and ecological well-being." With the perfect balance of offerings, I chose the 1K Facial, as well as the Sticks and Stones Massage with the Salt of the Earth Scrub. My experience at the EDITION spa is exactly what I needed after a long day of travel and meetings! Come that evening, our appetites were primed for a delicious dining experience at their restaurant, Ardor. This dimly lit restaurant lined with fresh greens from floor to ceiling provided an abundance of plant oxygen. We began our evening with a tomato brioche bread that aroused our tastebuds, followed by a caesar salad for Chris and a brussels spouts salad for me. The service at Ardor was impeccable. Their staff provide the ideal level of service, while simultaneously giving you privacy to enjoy your experience and connect with the ones you're with on your trip. For the entree, I enjoyed the black bass special while Chris dined on the filet mignon--both cooked to perfection. After dinner, we made our way down to their basement nightclub--something all EDITION locations are known for. The West Hollywood's club, called Sunset, is as much of a party for your eyes as it is your ears. The ceiling is lined from wall-to-wall with light reflecting disco balls, giving throwback NYC nightclub vibes. Sunset isn't just the newest place to be seen, it's the place to be you. Dancing until dawn before heading back to the lobby bar for drinks as the sun rises isn't exactly out of the ordinary here! After all, you only live once, right? The next morning, we were drawn back to Ardor for breakfast. While overlooking the beautiful, 360-view of L.A., we ordered the egg and vegetable frittata, as well as the eggs benedict to fuel us for the day ahead. The fact that Chris and I still talk about the savory dishes at Ardor should give you reason enough to go! After breakfast, we popped into their 24-hour, state-of-the-art gym for a quick workout, where I was thrilled to find my beloved Peloton bike, in addition to every other piece of equipment you could dream of. We capped off the afternoon at the expansive rooftop pool to take in the stunning views of Beverly Hills and toast to a day of relaxation poolside. More important than anything else, the service at The West Hollywood EDITION was second to none. The staff truly care about your experience and anticipate your needs before you even realize you have them. From the bartenders who can craft a custom cocktail simply based off of your preferred poison, to the front desk staff who felt more like old friends hosting us at their home than employees, the staff pays attention to every single detail--especially service. With additional locations in Abu Dhabi, London, New York City, Barcelona, Shanghai, Miami Beach, Sanya and Bodrum, it's clear EDITION wants to bring the party to every corner of the world. We look forward to coming back to The West Hollywood EDITION as we now finally have a home away from home in L.A. - 1 HOTEL WEST HOLLYWOOD, WEST HOLLYWOOD, CALIFORNIA
With all the hospitality competition in Los Angeles, it's hard for a hotel to stand out from the noise. However, what 1 Hotel has done, which differentiates them from the pack, is create a mission behind their brand of giving back to the environment. As they say, "The future of the world and the future of hospitality are one in the same." Earthy tones, raw materials, and fresh greens are among the visuals we saw as we walked through 1 Hotel. What we found out was most of the hotel is made with reclaimed materials, even down to the wooden room keys! Our room was a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of downtown LA. The reclaimed wood walls and sand toned bedding immediately induced a sense of calm as we walked in, and the incorporation of live plants throughout the living quarters breathes fresh plant oxygen into the space. After getting settled, we made our way to the rooftop pool, which is exclusive for hotel guests. Similar to the interior of 1 Hotel, the pool is lined with hundreds of different types of plant life. While taking in some California sunshine, Chris and I ordered a few drinks to our lounge area: the 1 in a Melon cocktail for Chris and the Illegal Spice for me. After taking a dip and taking in the panoramic views of The Hills, we ordered a baby kale salad with grilled salmon and the Impossible burger for lunch. We could have easily spent our entire afternoon poolside! Something I knew I had to check out while staying at 1 Hotel was FaceGym. This isn't your typical facial. In fact, they describe FaceGym as just that: a workout for your face! They use high energy kneading movements on your face to help tone and tighten the 40 facial muscles that often go ignored. After having a facelift that left her house bound, the founder of FaceGym created this service as a way to offer a non-invasive solution to anti-aging. They even customize a serum specifically for your skin needs, calling it your "Training Serum" on par with the gym theme. This serum is blended with a variety of nutrient-packed ingredients, but every single serum includes their magic potion which they call the "Muscle Blend." If you're looking to step outside your usual skincare routine and try something fun, I recommend checking out FaceGym! After a quick workout at the hotel gym, we freshened up and headed to dinner at Alice. The bubblegum pink and brass light fixtures hanging above the cozy, sky blue lounges offered a fun, vibrant feel for our date night. I started out the evening with the kale salad, while Chris dined on the heirloom beet salad. Alice prides themselves on using local, seasonal ingredients in every dish, which are inspired by French American cuisine. Since we heard the fish was the way to go, I selected the ancient grain risotto with grilled salmon and Chris had the grilled tuna with broccolini. One of the great things about Alice is the full marketplace at the entrance of the restaurant, offering charcuterie board and wine options, in addition to a fresh oyster raw bar where you can grab items to-go for that dinner party you’re headed to! We night-capped at Harriet's Rooftop, a sort of flashback to your grandmother's house in the 70's, but an elevated, chic version (trust us--it works!). The floor-to-ceiling windows offer a beautiful view of the city lit up at night, and the DJ brings an amazing energy into this indoor/outdoor space. The cocktails we ordered were absolutely picturesque, garnished with beautiful, fresh flowers, playing off the garden-like setting of the restaurant. Between the burgundy awnings with tassel trim, to the mood-setting string lighting, the vibe of this stop was definitely one of our favorites! The next morning we enjoyed breakfast at 1 Kitchen, where I selected the eggs on avocado toast while Chris enjoyed the grain bowl. Our sweet tooth got the best of us, so we decided to split their gluten free ricotta pancake--a decision I don't regret! With a passion and mission of sustainability and locations in other major cities including Brooklyn, Central Park, and Miami, the possibilities for growth for 1 Hotel are endless. - BANYAN TREE MAYAKOBA, RIVIERA MAYA, MEXICO
The beautiful thing about Mexico (besides the electric blue waters and white sand beaches, of course) is that there's a resort for every preference. From family-friendly, to a romantic getaway, or a nice blend of the two, whichever trip you're seeking out can be found in the marvelous Mexican landscape. We spent time at Banyan Tree Mayakoba and were astounded by the beautiful details influenced by the Thai culture--a country we've yet to visit, but it’s on our list! The lobby itself quite possibly makes the biggest statement with its signature tree floating on its own island in the center of the resort, dressed with beautiful crimson lanterns that illuminate the night sky and cast glowing reflections through the rippling water beneath. This Asian influence can also be seen within the resort's accommodations. With titles like 'Bliss', 'Serenity', and 'Spa', you can tell Banyan Tree's villas (along with Banyan Tree's resort altogether) provide guests a sanctuary for relaxation and luxury. Every villa offers guests their own private pool with varying views, from the magnificent Mayakoba canals to the vibrant greens of the El Camaleon golf course (Chris’ personal favorite). On par with the theme of relaxation, Banyan Tree's spa, The Rainforest, offers an experience suited perfectly for the climate: a hydrothermal facility using heat and humidity to detox the body. Take a dip in the vitality pool, indulge in the aroma steam room, or unwind in the Finnish sauna--better yet, pair any of these with a Thai, Indian, Chinese, or Balinese massage by one of their master therapists and you'll come out revitalized! We enjoyed dinner at both Saffron and Cello while at Banyan Tree, both memorable experiences with outstanding cuisine. Cello is their Italian-inspired restaurant overlooking the beautiful lagoons. With an entire wall of the restaurant open to the outdoors, we were serenaded by the sweet sounds of nature and surrounded by the Caribbean breeze. Chris and I began with the burrata salad as we deliberated over what to order for dinner (note: there is no wrong choice when ordering at Cello!). I enjoyed the fresh sea bass special with homemade linguine pasta and clams in a lemon olive oil sauce, while Chris dined on the oso buclinguineo and risotto. Something to note: Guests at any of the surrounding resorts can book reservations at Banyan Tree's restaurants. In fact, those who dine at Saffron, Cello, or any of the other incredible restaurants Banyan Tree offers are picked up by a duffy boat at their private boat dock, float peacefully by the villas, through the lagoon, and straight to the restaurant (and did we mention offer a lovely cheese platter and champagne toast along the way?). The following evening we dined at Saffron, an intimate setting featuring an authentic yet contemporary Thai cuisine. We shared the Khong Wang Ruam, two crisp rice noodle wrapped prawns, grilled chicken breast satay, fried floppy sea bass rice noodle rolls and pomelo prawn salad, as well as the Goong Sarong Buer Tod, a crisp rice noodle wrapped prawn, fried betal leaf and sweet mango chili sauce to prime our palates. Fried calamari, summer rolls, spring rolls, and crispy shrimp are also must-haves for those who want to truly experience everything the Thai cuisine has to offer. We rounded out our meal with the shrimp pad Thai, which Chris enjoyed, while I had the green curry grilled prawns--to die for! We recommend experiencing firsthand the best of Asian and Mexican culture at Banyan Tree's AAA Five Diamond luxury beach resort the next time you book your Caribbean getaway (and you never know--you may see us there when you go)! - ROSEWOOD MAYAKOBA, RIVIERA MAYA, MEXICO
I used to wonder why seemingly everyone vacations to Mexico when they have their pick of the globe, but then Chris and I went to Rosewood Mayakoba. Let's just say I wonder no more. Rosewood Mayakoba is a five-star jungle oasis situated north of Playa del Carmen overlooking the beautiful Caribbean Sea. As we made our way through the property, it was as if the buildings had been there for centuries and the jungle then grew up and around them. Picture your childhood dreams of living in a treehouse, then add a championship golf course, island spa, and a personal butler. Our suite overlooked the lagoon and offered views of lush greenery at every turn. We couldn't have dreamt of a more tranquil place to rest our heads. The beautiful white sand and comfortable cabanas were calling our names, so after getting settled we quickly headed to the beach. In fact, I think it goes without saying we spent every single afternoon lounging by the ocean. Taking in the Mexican sun while being served on the sand was wonderful, but getting behind the bar sounded a little more fun to Chris (are you surprised?)! Chris played bartender and learned how to mix a true Mexican margarita using the only tequila worth mentioning, Don Julio 1942. A splash of lime juice, a shot of agave, a little bit of cointreau, and a lot of Don Julio later, we had ourselves the perfect cocktail to sip oceanside--thanks, babe! When it was time to book our dinner reservations (which guests do through their butler, by the way), we had our pick from an array of mouth-watering cuisine, from Southern Pacific Coastal Mexican to Asian-influenced baja seafood and everything in between. Chris and I kept it casual on our first night at Rosewood Mayakoba and dined at Aqui Me Quedo, situated right on the beach under a sea of seemingly endless palm trees. While dipping our toes in the sand, we sipped margaritas served straight from their vintage food truck and ordered some fresh guacamole and pico de gallo. It's a sin if you go to Mexico and don't order guacamole! I then enjoyed the local caught sea bass with fresh seasonal vegetables while Chris had the grilled trout with fresh seasonal vegetables plucked right from the property garden. If you're looking for something slightly more intimate for a romantic night out, we recommend booking a reservation at Agave Azul, where you'll find a delectable fusion of Asian and Mexican fare. We began our meal with the "loco" edamame and rock shrimp, then moved onto a beautiful sushi spread consisting of their campechano roll, crispy soft shell crab roll, taco chino roll, and spicy tuna roll. The backlit walls lined with various bottles of rare tequilas and sweeping views of the lagoon made for a perfect date night ambiance. The next morning, we enjoyed breakfast overlooking vibrant fuschia blooms backed by bright aqua waters as we ate breakfast on the outdoor lounge of Casa Del Lago. Once Chris and I were fueled up for the day, we headed to the fitness center to break a sweat. I enjoyed several of their workout class offerings, including pilates floating and yoga floating, where you perform the movements standing on a floating board above the water, and traditional HIIT classes. Their wellness suite also offers the Technogym, TRX, BOSU, and my favorite Peloton bike. While Rosewood Mayakoba's overall theme is relaxation, it was a nice surprise to have such a vast selection of exercise equipment and fitness classes to choose from in order to stay on top of your fitness goals while away from home. Speaking of relaxation, one of the things we looked forward to the most was indulging at Sense, Rosewood's secluded spa which sits on it's very own island! A treatment unique to Rosewood Mayakoba that I recommend everyone experience is the Kuxtal Sensory Garden Ritual--a three-hour journey which begins with an awakening ritual using scents, sounds, and taste amid nature to awaken your senses before finding your own connection to one of the garden's plants. Dependent upon which plant you gravitate toward, your experience will be focused on either physical healing, meditation, or balancing of energy. After spending our afternoons oceanside, I wanted to treat my sun- kissed skin and chose the Mayakoba Organic Facial, which uses natural extracts and essential oils to brighten and soothe the skin leaving me with a radiant glow. I followed that up with the A Time To Dream body treatment, a warm sugar scrub exfoliation and dry skin oil energetic massage providing a sun-like sensation to the skin while enhancing your mood. Naturally, Chris and I wanted to partake in something together, so we booked the Curative Fire and Ice Therapy. Using both warm and cold stones, this treatment is used to relax muscles, reduce muscular tension, and improve circulation through an invigorating massage--a wonderful option for athletes and their better haves! Quite possibly my favorite part of our trip was the Cenote Temazcal Purification. This traditional Mayan practice takes place inside a stone structure (imagine an igloo of sorts), where a steam bath using herbal water and volcanic rock, as well as a scrub application, detoxified my skin. During this process, the Shaman lead a ceremony where I was guided and encouraged to control my thoughts with my mind, a practice that would greatly benefit those individuals with anxious tendencies. My journey concluded with a body temperature balancing water rinse, followed by a massage with warm herbal poultices. I truly felt rejuvenated and reconnected with the earth after this ritual. As if Rosewood Mayakoba could get any better, they offer a 7,000-yard, 18-hole, championship golf course, El Camaleon. If you know Chris, you know that this course was the driver behind Chris' excitement for Rosewood Mayakoba (pun intended)! While the course is quite narrow and demanding off the tee, the many holes that open up to expansive views of the water make the difficulty worth the while. In addition to being an official host of the PGA tour, El Camaleon also provides the top teaching facility for golf in all of Mexico. There truly isn't anything Rosewood Mayakoba doesn't offer their guests! During our stay here and as we travel to various destinations, we've noticed the shift toward true sustainability efforts by hotels and resorts looking to decrease waste, and Rosewood Mayakoba is among the leaders in this movement. One simple yet impactful way they incorporate this is in their fitness center, where we found reusable recycled aluminum bottles and a water filter, instead of plastic water bottles. On a grander scale, they've built a sophisticated in-house treatment plant, which takes used water from guest rooms and laundry and repurposes it for landscape irrigation--brilliant! They even gave thoughtful consideration to how guests get from point A to point B on the property, using only electric boats, electric golf carts, and bicycles. Lastly, Rosewood Mayakoba not only gives back to the environment, but they give back to their community as well. The K'iin Beh Foundation was created to fund the Centro Educativo K'iin Beh, a school built by Rosewood Mayakoba for the children of their employees and local youth. The school, which serves more than 200 students and offers bilingual, full-time education, has been funded entirely by friends and family of Rosewood Mayakoba, and if you feel so inclined, guests who have a desire to donate have various options to do so, as well. The stunning Rosewood Mayakoba is the ideal luxury resort for anyone looking to relax and indulge, while connecting with the local Mayan heritage. We're already looking forward to coming back to this beautiful corner of Mexico! Pack your digital bags and follow us on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook as we explore each destination!
